"Terwijl We Sliepen" is a theatre installation in the form of a three-dimensional film that immerses the audience in an enchanting world in which (children's) drawings, film images, interviews and optical illusions come together in a unique way.

"Terwijl We Sliepen" is about freedom, the lack thereof and about fleeing and hiding in wartime, seen through the eyes of the child: children like our (great)grandparents during the Second World War and children growing up at this moment, safe in a primary school or uncertain as a newcomer in the Netherlands.Fragments of stories about hiding, being away, the threat of war and the desire for simple peace are interwoven with powerful images and driving sounds. The resilience of the child and of nature itself is depicted. The drawn animations by Frederieke Mooij, the poetic soundtrack by composer Simone Giacomini and the mysterious mise en scène make the impact of fleeing and hiding tangible.
